What is Chesters?

Chesters Cottage is situated is on the southern edge of The Cheviot Hills on land belonging to Prendwick Farm. To drive to the cottage involves a 3.5 mile journey on rough farm tracks and a 4×4 is essential. To walk to the cottage involves a 2.5 mile walk from Ingram Village or 1.25 mile walk from Hartside.

Scouts from the 15th Whitley Bay Scout Group have looked after the cottage from approximately 1967. Scout groups have been allowed use of the cottage for hill walking and it continues to be used to date by Scouts and Explorer Scouts.

In 1997 the wash area was upgraded with a new roof and two flush toilets, septic tank and a shower cubicle.

  • Excellent facility, the remoteness and dark skies are fantastic, much holier that expected and the wood burners are a massive plus..don’t ever get rid of them.
Well stocked lots of room and washing facilities are great too, lots of wild areas to explore.Reiverdale Leaders have stayed there for three years and now make it a regular feature, keep up the great work WBExplorers and Paul,Bev and their team.

  • We have been visiting Chesters for many years, I personally first visited in 2000 and have always loved the charm of the place.
Yes I am one of the ones who say, don’t use the new lights, as I want to show the scouts what it was like when we stayed, all huddled in the smaller front living room, keeping warm. We continue to use the place and will hopefully be able to visit later this year.
