At the weekend some of the scout group completed an Emergency First Aid course as part of training for Young Leaders. In the 8 hour course we covered how to take, record and monitor vital signs, deal with an unconscious person, perform CPR, deal with someone who is choking, administer first aid to someone who is wounded, bleeding and suffering from shock, manage typical damage to arms and legs, deal with common illnesses such as heart attack and asthma attacks, learn how to protect and insulate a casualty and recognize and manage heat & cold related injuries. Finally, we finished off by learning how to treat a casualty who has had a severe allergic reaction, through usage of the EpiPen. This course counted as Module K for young Leaders (For more on young leaders, check out the Young Leaders Modules page).
I'm pleased to say all of the Explorers (and Vicky!) passed with flying colours and will be awarded their certificates shortly.
